Adam Linder's choreographies combine innovative approaches to movement, virtuosity and performativity, breaking with conventions and holding a mirror up to the discipline itself. It is only fitting then that, together with Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop, he now stages a meeting of live musicians and dancers. In “TOURNAMENT”, set to a commissioned score by Ethan Braun, the stage turns into a playing field where five dancers and five musicians test the myth of harmonious unity between these two disciplines. The score is a confrontation between acoustic and digital sound — the concreteness of a dog’s bark set against the abstraction of microtonal harmony. Agonism or competition can be found at the root of much creative impulse and this work moves beyond an oppositional relation to open up a space for playful expression.
